Are These Flushable?
Yes, the instructions say that up to two at a time can be flushed where your plumbing allows for it. Being biodegradable means that at some point they will eventually break down and decompose which sounds good on paper but before you go for it please let me ask if you've heard of fatburgs?
Prepare to be grossed out. Fatbergs are massive accumulations of fat mixed with pretty much everything else you could imagine that ever gets flushed down a toiled or sink, that accumulates in the sewer systems of many towns and cities.
Fat, poured down kitchen sinks starts to build up over time and that fat captures solids which in turn allows for more fat to be built up. Once theres a big enough bulk then wipes start to get caught. Reports on fatbergs weighing tonnes and being hundreds of meters long are now frequent, their presence usually detected when drains and sewers become blocked. The engineers who have to remove them constantly say that wipes are one of the biggest contributors to the fatberg problem.
So We Should Boycott Wipes?
You wouldn't boycott sugar because some people become obese, right? The product isn't the problem, it's the users or rather how the users dispose of them which is the problem. Throwing then away with household waste is fine, being biodegradable means that a landfill site is the perfect resting place for these convenient pocket sized helpers.
